ALTADIS - IMPERIAL TOBACCO

ALTADIS - IMPERIAL TOBACCO

Leader of the tobacco sector in Spain, the only tobacco company that has industrial centers in Spain and the one that buys the most tobacco from Extremadura farmers.

It's one of the oldest companies in the world, born in 1636, when the Tobacco Established Institution was created in Spain. The firm would evolve until becoming, in 1945, in Tabacalera, a group that at the end of the 20th century merged with the French Seita, giving rise to Altadis.

In its origins the group was a monopoly controlled by the State and privatization did not arrive until 1998 and, since then, it has not stopped gaining prominence at an international level. First, it was the integration with Seita, but it would not become a global firm until 2008, when the British Imperial Tobacco acquired the company.
